Our recent Twitter survey revealed Sheffield Midland Station as being the preferred option for a new HS2 station for South Yorkshire. However, it wasn’t a clear outcome as the Midland Station only polled 44% of the overall votes cast.
Sheffield Chamber of Trade and Sheffield City Council have been leading the call for the proposed HS2 station to be located in Sheffield city centre rather than the original HS2 proposal of a new elevated station between Meadowhall and M1 at Tinsley Viaduct. newly commissioned studies claim that the entire Sheffield City Region will have greater economic benefit despite the perceived inconvenience of a less central location.
- Up to £5 billion extra into the local economy
- 6500 extra jobs
- 1000 more homes
These powerful claims have been met with mixed responses from Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster who’s leaders prefer a station at Meadowhall, but our survey reveals that Meadowhall is the least favoured option for business.
What do you think of the new station options for HS2, is there one that you would prefer for business?
- Expand the Midland Station 44%
- A new Victoria Station 33%
- Alongside Meadowhall 22%
