South Yorkshire’s airport at the former RAF Finningley has enjoyed a big boost in passenger numbers with a 37% increase. Doncaster Sheffield Airport was the number one UK airport for growth during 2017 when Doncaster Sheffield Airport Ltd reported turnover of £10.6m up to the year ending 31 March 2017 compared to £8.5m in 2015/16.
FlyBe, TUI and Wizz Air all increased the number of passengers carried. Cargo operations were also on the up with tonnage handled increasing too.
Increased investment meant that losses increased from £11.7m to £22.2 . The directors said: “The company will continue to closely manage its costs, work with its business partners to improve the operational efficiency of the airport and to attract new business.”
