Sheffield’s former Debenhams up for sale again
The vacant landmark former department store on The Moor in the heart of Sheffield is set to be auctioned online by Allsop on 24th September 2024.
The substantial, multi-level property was previously home to the iconic British retailer Debenhams and was later part of a controversial forced lender’s administration with Mike Ashley’s Frasers empire which now operates the high-end Flannels store in Meadowhall. It was subsequently sold to London based MHA for £1.5m during the covid pandemic but redevelopment plans failed to come to fruition.
The site holds significant redevelopment potential. Covering a vast area and featuring both commercial and leisure space, the former Debenhams had various proposals put forward including a traders hall and even suggestions that it could be a hospital.
Investors may view this as a key opportunity to revitalise a prime city center location. With its historical importance and strategic positioning, the auction offers a unique chance to reshape part of Sheffield’s urban landscape.
The guide price is £850,000 for the leasehold interest but it’s expected that the hammer price could be substantially higher if a number of bidders come forward.
